Outer Harbour / Marina

Harbour Dredging
Tuesday, 17th May to Wednesday, 1st June
The outer harbour / marina and entrance are dredged each year to maintain an adequate depth of water for boats at all tide states. The outer harbour silts up due to sand from East Beach being swept by pervailing sea currents in a westerly direction and also from silt being swept down the River Brit. Heavy machinery will remove excess sand from the harbour and pump it onto West Beach or West Cliff Beach. The sea then naturally cleans the sand, leaving a smoother topping to the Beach.
The outer harbour / marina and slipway will have limited access during this period. Also, parts of West Beach or West Cliff Beach (whichever is chosen for replenishment) will be sectioned off.
