Purchased in 1989 for £650, this car was manufactured under licence from Ferrari by 'Toys Toys' and is a replica of the famous F40 (probably the most impressive 'limited edition' car ever built by Ferrari). Various bespoke modifications were then carried out to this electric model car to make it more realistic and truly unique (see below).

Child's genuine Formula 1 Ferrari 'Michael Schumacher' jacket, in excellent condition. The jacket is being sold on behalf of Julia's House Children's Hospice.
When purchased, the car was supplied with one electric motor, driving one of the rear wheels. Also with separate (4th) pedal for reverse (difficult to reach). Two forward speeds, but preset by safety switch on dashboard to lock high or low speed. Recharge batteries by disconnecting them first. No centre console.
Modifications:
A second electric motor added to the rear driving wheels.
An electric gearbox added on a centre console, with working gearlever to select 1st, 2nd and reverse 'gears'.
A small horn added to the steering wheel, controlled by the main batteries.
Safety switch to lock 1st gear speed, for young or inexperienced children.
3rd forward speed added with safety switch to preset 1st and 2nd gears as 'Slow to Medium' speed only (for small
or novice child),......or to preset 1st and 2nd gears as 'Medium to Fast' speed (for larger or more experienced child).
Charge switch on centre console and socket on dashboard, eliminates necessity to disconnect main batteries
each time a recharge is required.
Meter on charging lead to indicate charging state of batteries.
Standard features:
Driver and passenger seats are adjustable for forward / back position.
Non-latching handbrake to stop the car.
Pedals for Power 'ON', Brake (to reduce speed downhill), Accelerate.
Top speed about 10 Km/h (6 mph).
2 x 6 volt 8 AH batteries, with space on chassis for 2 more batteries (to increase driving distance).
Range approximately 1 hour with 2 fully charged batteries (dependent on size and number of children in car).
Safety equipment includes separate fuses for each battery and self-resetting thermal cut-outs for each electric driving motor.
The car has not been used for over 10 years (since 1996) and has been stored indoors. The batteries were replaced at around this time. Batteries are easily available for replacement.
Known faults: Small scuff mark approximately 7 millimetres (¼ inch) square on top of rear spoiler on nearside. Paper labels on foot-pedals worn. A couple of body transfers have curled slightly on the edges; can be carefully glued down.
Do not confuse the quality of this car with childrens' electric cars commonly found in toy shops or on the internet.
