Feather Stitchery: Bringing Colour To The 1950's Dorset County
Museum, High West Street, Dorchester, closed Sundays. This nostalgic
exhibition looks back to the 1950's, when a devoted group of WI members
developed a popular new style of embroidery. The colourful innovation of
Dorset Feather Stitchery did much to brighten the post-war austerity

02 An Evening With George Band Powell Theatre, Abbey

member of the first successful Everest expedition, under the leadership of
Colonel John Hunt when Hillary and Tenzing reached the summit in 1953. In
this evening’s presentation, George recalls with a light touch the drama
of the first ascent of Everest and how, over the intervening years, it has
affected the lives of the climbers and the Sherpas in their spectacular
